In the words of Artistic Director and CEO Bengt Jörgen, “people are falling in love with our production of Swan Lake all across British Columbia!” We have now performed Swan Lake in Duncan, Nelson, Vernon, Prince Rupert, Terrace, Kitimat, and Burns Lake and the response has been truly overwhelming. “We sold out in Burns Lake, Vernon, Nelson, as well as Kitimat. In Terrace we had to stop selling tickets because we were at a technical sell out and our performance in Prince Rupert drove the best ticket sales the theatre has had in decades, maybe ever for professional dance.”

Bengt Jörgen on the Swan Lake tour of Western Canada:
How great it is to be on stage in Swan Lake and to feel the electricity in the air every night the curtain opens. It is fantastic to be back in BC with sold out houses and record setting audiences. There is nothing like dancing for a full house with a crowd ready to enjoy and share in the experience of a live performance. I am completely overwhelmed (and with a few years of experience under my belt this doesn’t happen often) by the warmth and exhilaration of the audience response to our Swan Lake, it is beyond what I had hoped for. Our dancers are soaring onstage – it is a real treat to see such an abundance of talent every night. They are growing with each step and are enjoying connecting with so many different people across the province.  Visiting some communities for the first time and returning to meet old friends, this is the largest BC tour we have ever done and it couldn’t be more fun than this!

Read about the effect Ballet Jörgen Canada’s Swan Lake has had on various communities in BC:
I would like to thank Ballet Jörgen for making the long trip up to the North West of BC to bring this amazing-beyond-belief production to our community. They were an absolute dream company to work with from start to finish. The community outreach went above and beyond. The inclusion of 12 local students to participate in the production was an unselfish gesture that proves the company’s sheer passion and love of ballet.  The workshops at the local dance studio were an incredible rare opportunity for our young students to experience, one they will not soon forget. The community embraced  Swan Lake with overwhelming support, something I have not seen in many years. I definitely see more ballet in our future. [The ballet] took my breath away, and I found myself consumed with emotion as I wiped my eyes at the finale. The audience was completely captured by the beautiful lighting and set design but the dancers stole their hearts.

We were so impressed with the show and amazed at the ease of which it was to present. Everyone at Ballet Jörgen has been wonderful to deal with; friendly, efficient and organized. The reactions to the show have been wonderful.  People that I have talked to were very impressed. I loved it myself and found the show entertaining, varied.  The calibre of ballet dance was undeniably superb. The Community component & photography class went well too, thank you to Clea.

Our REM Lee manager is new, she was very nervous about hosting this event.  I spoke with her after and it sounds like the company made her life easier too, giving her all the tools she needed to ensure tech was exactly what they needed.  Great job!

Terrace is so very happy that we were able to experience Ballet Jörgen’s Swan Lake. I think it may have sparked a new appreciation for dance in our community – Thank You for all your work on this.

A magnificent performance, the production and dancers are wonderful. And also, as a presenter, we’d be most amiss if we didn’t mention the crew. The crew is completely amazing – confident, competent, flexible and encouraging. It is almost miraculous what they can make happen in 24 hours, night after night, working in different venues, with different theatre staff, volunteers and technical challenges. Working with the crew was a pleasure, and for us as presenters was one of the highlights of the whole experience – REALLY. Thank  you [everyone at] Ballet Jörgen for encouraging us to take on this challenge. It was a fabulous experience, and one I know audience members will treasure for years.

I just wanted to personally thank you so much for the opportunity that you gave my daughter Anastasia [to perform in Swan Lake].  The professionalism and sheer joy of dance that your dancers exhibited was so wonderful for her to see up close.  I’m sure that she will never forget the night that she got to sit with the Countess on stage!   Everyone that I talked to was very impressed with the Company and quality of the production.  There were lots of people from Victoria who made the drive on a Sunday evening.  I hope that you will be able to come to Duncan again.  Please thank all the dancers for giving us an unforgettable evening.

This evening’s performance of Swan Lake was stunning.  The lighting and music were superb.  My heart just about stopped in the first few opening minutes – the ballet was so dramatic and it had me completely swept up in its magic.  The corps de ballet was divine – the dancers were so disciplined and yet so beautiful in their movements – I was so taken with them.  The prinicipal dancers were wonderful: the men so athletic in their leaps and their swagger, and the swan Odette was just breathtaking.  It was a night to be treasured – as I surely will.  The very first ballet I ever saw was Swan Lake – a gift from my aunt and uncle on my graduation from university.  We had seats in the 30th row at the old Massey Hall and we saw the Canadian Ballet company dance – but it did not compare to the emotional power this presentation had for me- only 12 rows away and feeling the power of the dancers – it was so REAL.
