Canada’s Ballet Jörgen presents a one-time only performance on March 29, 2014
For immediate release
Ottawa, Ontario, February 11, 2014: Shakespeare’s tale of love, anguish, and revenge is masterfully transformed into Bengt Jörgen’s magical world of ballet. While remaining true to the original story, Jörgen focuses on creating a clear and emotionally-driven journey for audiences with this timeless classic.
Romeo & Juliet has sparked the imagination of many an artist and so it too has inspired Jörgen to create a work of intimacy and warmth. Jörgen’s version begins with the smell of a rose and the prick of a thorn woven into a journey as two lovers unite. Ultimately, it is a story that is more pure than dark. For this dance season, Jörgen has refreshed the production with additional choreography, allowing for the inclusion of young local dancers including some from Ottawa in the performance at Centrepointe Theatre.
Romeo & Juliet has already had a few performance dates in Québec and Ontario to strong acclaim – particularly with Juliet’s Saniya Abilmajineva and Hiroto Saito in the role of Romeo. Daniel Da Silva and Yoo Sang Hong are alternating as Mercutio. Returning from British Columbia with its stop in Ottawa before concluding the cross-country tour in St. John’s, Newfoundland this April, Ballet Jörgen continues to bring quality ballet to Canadian communities coast to coast.
Tickets for the March 29 performance at 7:30 pm are available at http://www.centepointetheatre.ca or by contacting the Theatre box office at 613-580-2700.
