Professional accompanists are welcome to apply to Canada’s Ballet Jörgen & George Brown Dance!

Pianists are needed for ballet classes, and George Brown Dance also schedules:

  • Percussionists for modern dance classes
  • Pianists for Vocal and Chorus Repertoire classes

Accompanists will potentially be called upon to play for a ballet class for the company, and/or as a substitute for George Brown Dance classes. This may lead to contracts for regular classes during school terms.

Job Description

The Wardrobe Supervisor will oversee all areas of wardrobe for Canada’s Ballet Jörgen, including fittings, alterations, repairs, inventory, organization and laundry. The Wardrobe Supervisor will tour with the Company, so a desire to travel to small communities from coast to coast across all ten Canadian provinces and into the United States is a must.

Touring responsibilities include:

  • Supervise pre-tour costume load-out from warehouse and studio;
  • Supervising theatre wardrobe personnel;
  • Assisting with costume load-in, setup and load-out;
  • Fittings for Local Participants;
  • Costume repairs/alterations;
  • Laundry; costumes to dry cleaners
  • Keeping detailed notes on costumes and venue wardrobe facilities;
  • Driving production vehicles including 16’ box cube.

Toronto responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with Toronto area performances as outlined in Touring Responsibilities;
  • In studio performance assistance;
  • Sourcing/building costumes for 2-3 George Brown Dance performances per year;
  • Costume fittings;
  • Costume repairs and alterations;
  • General costume upkeep;
  • Assisting with dancer shoe inventory and packing for tour;
  • Managing costume use for rehearsals;
  • Managing costume storage at Company warehouse;
  • Managing costume rentals;
  • Updating paperwork for all Company ballets and keeping a detailed costume inventory & photos;

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of costume repair and cleaning techniques a must;
  • Experience as a qualified seamstress in a professional setting and prior theatrical dance costume experience a must;
  • Class G Ontario Drivers Licence or equivalent a must;
  • Valid passport a must;
  • Willing to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends;
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently while also being a part of a small team and possess good organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Knowledge of wig maintenance an asset;
  • Touring experience an asset;
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations and deadline pressure while ensuring accuracy;

The Wardrobe Supervisor will report to the Artistic Director and work closely with the Production Manager and Education Manager.

 Job Description: 

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is looking for a Technical Director. This is a full-time position starting October 25, 2021. 

The Technical Director reports directly to the Production Manager and the Artistic Director and supervises the CBJ technical staff and the house crew staff. The Technical Director uses their experience to ensure the smooth and safe presentation of all events. And will travel with the tour while providing hands-on support as necessary and supervision for the technical aspects of the production. 

Duties: 

  • Provide technical expertise and consultation for all events 
  • Works with CBJ crew to maintain & transport of all set, props and production items. 
  • Responsible for all set ups including set, large props, lighting, dance floor and the strike in all venues with venue crew provided – professional and volunteers. 
  • Some physical work will be required, including but not limited to, heavy lifting and climbing ladders, Aerial lifts and working at heights. 
  • Assists with tour paperwork including venue information, technical rider information and lighting information. 
  • Updates paperwork for each ballet toured including notes on each venue. 
  • Hires part time staff for events as necessary in consultation with Production Manager. 
  • Work will include evenings and weekends. 
  • Qualifications/Required Skills 
  • Completion of an accredited post-secondary program in technical theatre or the equivalent combination (3 years or more) of experience and education. 
  • Professional experience as a Technical Director or head technician Knowledgeable in scenic construction and fly systems & fixed grid rigging. 
  • Ability to read and produce technical drawings. Moderate experience in computer aided drafting, knowledgeable with AutoCAD an asset. Experience with QLab software. 
  • Must be self-motivated and possess good organizational and time management skills. 
  • Able to drive production vehicles – 26’ straight truck, cube, vans, etc. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be organized and efficient and work well under pressure. 
  • An ability to work independently while also being a part of a small team. 
  • Working knowledge of current safety standards. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license. 
  • Must have a valid passport. 
  • Touring experience would be an asset. 
  • Bilingual (French & English) both written and spoken would be an asset.

  • Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is seeking a Stage Manager for its 2021 – 2022 Touring Season 
  • for their theatrical events throughout the season with tours in Ontario, Western Canada, Quebec, Eastern Canada and in the States. 
  • The Stage Manager maintains communications with performers and all members of the production team. 
  • Compiles and maintains blocking and cues. 
  • Prop management, storage and minor prop repairs. 
  • Completes and distribute rehearsal and performance reports including set placement and props and venue information. 
  • Attends production crew meetings. 
  • Qualifications/Required Skills 
  • Completion of an accredited post-secondary program in technical theatre specializing in Stage Management or the equivalent combination (5 years or more) of stage management experience and education. 
  • Must have theatrical and/or dance stage management experience. 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. 
  • A strong team player, who also possesses the ability to work under their own initiative. 
  • A high degree of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Work well under pressure. 
  • Working knowledge of current safety standards. 
  • A valid driver’s license is essential. Duties will include driving production vehicles. 
  • Must have a valid passport. 
  • Touring experience would be an asset. 
  • Bilingual (French & English) both written and spoken would be an asset 
  • Fee: $1120/wk.
