Announcing CBJ Summer Dance 2018

 

 

New Guest Choreographers and Long-time Favourites Join this Year’s Programming

CBJ’s annual Summer Dance Program has an unprecedented amount of programming for ages 9 all the way up to 18 and over. Each year the Education team brings in top choreographers and teachers to work with the Junior Company and the Advanced Summer Training program. The program also has CBJ faculty teaching various classes to young dancers of all ages. This year is no exception for the outstanding dancers and artists we have coming to CBJ.

2018 Choreographers

 

Hanna Kiel
Founder and Artistic Director of Toronto dance company Human Body Expression, Hanna Kiel is one of Canada’s most dynamic choreographers. She creates works that pulse from the very heart of human feeling; that are touching, arousing, disturbing, exciting, and everything in between. This will be Hanna’s third commission for the Junior Company in addition to commissions for CBJ and the George Brown Dance Spring Showcase. Hanna will create her new piece for the Junior Company July 5-Aug 3.

Daniel Da Silva
Principal Dancer Daniel Da Silva has been a member of CBJ since 2009. Daniel is one of the company’s most diverse artists equally at home in contemporary creations and performing the leads in all major classical ballets. Daniel is a member of the company’s Artistic Working Group supporting the development of younger dancers. Daniel will be creating a new piece for the Junior Company July 9-Aug 3.

 

Kevin Ormsby
Artistic Director of KasheDance, Kevin A. Ormsby is a prolific dancer and choreographer, he is also an adjunct artist with Dance Exchange (Washington D.C). Kevin who was a member of Garth Fagan Dance (NY), and has danced works by a variety of artists including Mark Morris and Bill T. Jones, and is a Victor Martyn Lynch – Staunton Award recipient in Dance. Kevin will create his first piece for the Junior Company July 16-27.

 

Avinoam Silverman
Independent artist Avinoam Silverman is a former member of the National Ballet of Canada where he danced numerous roles and worked with choreographers such as Crystal Pite. Avinoam has created numerous works for the National Ballet of Canada’s choreographic workshops as well as pieces for CBJ’s Solos & Duet program, his first Dance Film ‘Diversion’ premiered in 2015. Avinoam will create two pieces for the Summer Intensive IV program July 23-Aug 3.

Artistic Director, Bengt Jörgen will be working with Junior Company members on Coppélia: A Comedy with Love. He will also teach both Junior Company and Summer Intensive classes.
