October 5, 2009. Toronto ON… Ballet Jörgen Canada is pleased to announce fall performances of its young people’s ballet in repertoire, The Emperor’s New Clothes.   Presented by Children’s Stage Lakefield in Peterborough and The Sanderson Centre in Brantford, this delightful retelling of the well-loved Hans Christian Andersen classic tale continues to charm young people from the ages of four to ten.

Choreographed by Benjamin Hatcher and with an original score by Canadian composer Ivan Barbotin, The Emperor’s New Clothes first premièred in October 2004 has since played to over 62,000 young people across Canada.  With a mandate to take ballet to communities that have little access to the live performing arts, this delightful work has been performed in schools, parks and intimate auditoriums in many remote communities and at-risk neighborhoods across Ontario.

This humourous telling of The Emperor’s New Clothes promotes clear educational and life lessons, bookmarked by interactive pre- and post-performance discussions.  Wee ones are always thrilled at the opportunity to go on stage, learn and present a piece of the show choreography!

Widely recognized for its innovation, warmth, humor and beauty, Ballet Jörgen Canada is the only major Canadian ballet company with a repertoire exclusively of original works.  With over two decades of innovation in creating opportunities for Canadian choreographers and engagement with communities in outreach and educational activities, Ballet Jörgen Canada remains true to the vision of its founders, Bengt Jörgen and Susan Bodie.  Ballet Jörgen Canada’s educational activities range from its long-time collaboration with George Brown College in Toronto to elementary school programming that brings ballet to children across the country.  In addition, Ballet Jörgen Canada’s annual touring brings ballet performances to over 50,000 people from coast to coast in Canada and northern USA, sharing the experience of ballet with more communities in Canada than any other dance company.  With a ‘hub’ in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and centres in Ottawa and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ballet Jörgen Canada is truly Canada’s local ballet company.
