For Immediate Release
July 24, 2009. Toronto Ontario… Due to the legal strike in the City of Toronto by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 416 and 79 which began on June 22, 2009, Ballet Jörgen Canada is disappointed to announce that it is relocating its upcoming Ballet in the Park event from its annual location at Etienne Brulé Park, Etobicoke.
Said Artistic Director & CEO Bengt Jörgen, “As a result of suspended City administration, the naming of Etienne Brulé Park as a temporary garbage drop-off site and no tangible end to the strike, we are forced to move the season-launching event to Mississauga. This is unfortunate, especially as Ballet in the Park is the only major annual free ballet event in the City of Toronto.”
Ballet Jörgen Canada is pleased to announce that the third annual Ballet in the Park will now be presented at Port Credit Memorial Park, in Mississauga, from August 20 to 22, 2009, with no change to the originally announced dates and times. Amidst the serene beauty of the Credit River, Ballet Jörgen Canada launches the 2009-2010 season with five performances in its fun, free, family-friendly event that brings classical ballet to the outdoors.
Evening performances will feature the comedic love story Coppélia, an innovative contemporary ballet. The young people’s production of The Emperor’s New Clothes is a delightfully humorous retelling of the well-loved Hans Christian Andersen classic tale and the daytime performances are an excellent introduction to ballet for little ones.
Audiences are encouraged to bring a chair (seating is open lawn and is first come, first served) and experience ballet in a summer event that is not to be missed!
