[Toronto, ON – June 13, 2016] Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will be celebrating the company’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and equal rights by marching with over 20 dancers in the Toronto Pride Parade on July 3, 2016.

Since its inception in 1987, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen has been dedicated to building audiences for the performing arts by inspiring, enriching and connecting with communities through dance.

The company tours Canada with over 120 performances each year, making professional ballet accessible to a wide range of rural, urban and inner-city communities.

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen maintains that ballet can be enjoyed and appreciated by people from all different walks of life, and strongly believes that dance should be an inclusive art form at every level.

Our company recruits dancers purely on facility and talent, regardless of the artist’s shape, size, sexuality or background. This equitable mandate also applies to our educational programming.

“Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is proud to be a company that has always supported and celebrated artists regardless of their race, sexuality, gender or religion, and we work with dancers of all shapes and sizes. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome, and we are thrilled to support our LGBT dancers and company members by marching in the Pride Parade this summer.” – Artistic Director and CEO, Bengt Jörgen.

The company will be announcing their 2016/2017 season and national tour dates later this month.

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is grateful for the operating support from the Ontario Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts and the Toronto Arts Council. We would also like to thank George Brown College, our Education Partner, and our major corporate partners BMO Financial, RBC Foundation and TD Bank Group for helping us bring ballet from coast to coast.
