[St. John’s, NL – April 2, 2015] By popular demand, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen (CBJ) will return for a second time this season to Atlantic Canada & Québec with their critically acclaimed production of Cinderella. The production will open to a sold-out performance at the St. John’s Arts & Culture Centre on Saturday April 4th. Afterwards, upon returning home to Nova Scotia, the company will team up with Symphony Nova Scotia for three performances of Cinderella at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax on April 17th & 18th. CBJ will also bring its much celebrated one-act ballet Bouffonia by Robert Desrosiers to the Festival Stage in Wolfville, Nova Scotia on Sunday April 12th.
“You can’t help but cheer!” – The Winnipeg Free Press.
In addition to dates in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, the Confederation Centre in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and the Capitol Theatre in Moncton, New Brunswick will also be seeing return visits from the company, while Saguenay and Alma in Québec will be hosting CBJ for the first time.
“We want to spark people’s imaginations,” says Bengt Jörgen, CBJ’s Artistic Director. “We want to open up a whole other dimension with art – that’s what it’s all about. We are particularly pleased to be able to partner with Symphony Nova Scotia to present Cinderella to live music in Halifax- when it’s done right, there’s nothing like it.”
Canada’s Ballet Jörgen provides extensive educational and community programming as part of its tours, which includes our Local Participant program, a venture that allows dance students in every community to have the opportunity to gain invaluable performance experience. This tour will put particular focus on educational programming which, in addition to the company’s local participant’s performances, will include master classes, workshops and a full day of open classes for youth and children in Halifax on April 19th. The company will hold an audition for all of its training programs and company positions at the Maritime Conservatory in Halifax on April 19th. The company will deliver educational programming in Alma, Charlottetown, the Halifax Regional Municipality (Bedford, Dartmouth and Halifax), New Minas, Moncton, Saguenay, St. John’s, Summerside, Truro, Windsor and Wolfville.
‘When our dancers and artistic staff work with young dancers, we look to inspire them to work hard and to instill our value of a commitment to high standards in technique, professionalism and artistry. I hope that students walk away from their time with us with a newly triggered commitment and love for the work and beauty of dance.” Clea Iveson, Education Manager
