Company to perform in every province

[Toronto, ON – February 3, 2015] Canada’s Ballet Jörgen’s open’s its winter touring season with Cinderella tomorrow night in Thunder Bay, Ontario together with the Thunder Bay Symphony.  The National tour of Cinderella will see the company perform in every single Canadian province, showcasing the company’s commitment to providing Canadians, coast to coast, with the opportunity to experience first-rate classical ballet.

The initial six week phase of the tour will take the company to Winnipeg for a sold-out performance at Centennial Hall, British Columbia including a number of Northern communities some experiencing full-length classical ballet for the first time, Alberta and Saskatchewan.  The company will return to Ontario for performances in Toronto and Hamilton before leaving for Atlantic Canada and Québec. The company’s performances in the Maritimes will be highlighted with three performances together with Symphony Nova Scotia in Halifax.  The tour will come to a close with performances in Kingston, Ontario on May 2nd.  This is the second part of the company’s national tour of Cinderella; the production has already toured extensively this season in Ontario, Québec and Labrador.

“We are committed to building communities across Canada through the shared experience of professional ballet,” explained Ballet Jörgen Founder and Creative Director Bengt Jörgen. “Seeing Canadians in far-flung towns enjoying a unique cultural event inspires us and is deeply satisfying.”

Cinderella by Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is an innovative take on the classic fairy tale. Jörgen’s choreography fuses with modern realism resulting in a very human take on Cinderella and her circumstances.

Glenn Davidson’s set design creates a fantastical environment where ice storms and old forest growth represent the natural world reclaiming man-made structures. Costume designs by Robert Doyle playfully echo each character’s personality. Ballet Jörgen’s Cinderella is a classical ballet with modern and dramatic sensibilities.

“Destined to live happily ever after” (Paula Citron, The Globe and Mail).
