Job Description

The Summer Program Coordinator provides administrative and logistical support for Canada’s

Ballet Jörgen’s Summer Dance Intensive Programs. These programs offer summer dance training for students from ages 9 to 20. There are five levels designed for different abilities, ranging from beginner to emerging artists seeking a professional career in dance. The primary objective of the Company’s Summer Dance programs is to build knowledge and skill across age groups and geographies. The work provided by the Summer Program Coordinator will help unsure the Company can meet this objective.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Administrative work on program registration;
  • Supporting student orientation and check in;
  • Answering questions and providing assistance for students and parents;
  • Chaperoning duties on site at company studios;
  • Assisting with binder preparation for summer program dorm chaperones;
  • Entering data gathered from Summer Dance feedback forms;
  • Creating a summary of suggestions for summer dance 2020;
  • Putting together preliminary brochure paperwork with 2020 updates;
  • Assisting with studio preparation, set-up for showings;
  • Preparing class lists, checking class attendance;
  • Escorting students to appointments and activities as needed;
  • Assisting with research for future informational mailings;
  • Assisting with social media content generation;
  • Updating and monitoring daily schedules with respect to faculty & accompanists
  • Various other tasks as required.

 

Requirements

  • This job is made possible through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs Program. Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age AND be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office a must;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills a must;
  • Database (Raisers Edge) management experience an asset;
  • WordPress experience an asset;
  • An interest in performing arts administration or education as asset;
  • Knowledge of/background in dance/performing arts an asset;
  • French an asset.

 

Employment Length:

9 Weeks Minimum

Creative Assistant

Creative Assistant

Job Description

The Creative Assistant will work with Artistic Director, Bengt Jörgen on the creation of the Company’s newest full-length ballet, Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet. A majority of each day will be spent in the studio, working alongside the Artistic Director. The Creative Assistant will

have the opportunity to participate in the early stages of a ballet’s development. Through this process, they will develop a deeper understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities presented with creating a full-length story ballet.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the development of choreography as a dancer;
  • Taking detailed notes as scenes are created on other dancers;
  • Assisting in the creation of parts for Youth Participants;
  • Teaching choreography to Summer Program participants as youth roles are created;
  • Scheduling rehearsals for students and company dancers;
  • Assisting with the creation of outreach material based on choreography from Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet;
  • Assisting with the Company’s Education Programs, including supervision of students

involved in the creation.

 

Requirements

  • This job is made possible through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs Program. Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age AND be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • A strong background in ballet is required, and the applicants for this position will be auditioned and interviewed by the Artistic Director;
  • An interest in choreography or dancer education a must;
  • Strong written and verbal skills a must;
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented;

Digital Archives Coordinator

Digital Archives Coordinator

Job Description

The Digital Archives Coordinator will be responsible for digitizing the Company’s extensive archive of performance footage and music and developing a system of organization that ensures ease of access for those who need it. The Digital Archives Coordinator will also assist with the creation of new digital content for archival and marketing purposes.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Digitizing and organizing music files on the Company’s server and in a cloud storage system;
  • Digitizing and organizing video files on the Company’s server and in a cloud storage system;
  • Recording and editing digital content as needed;
  • Distributing digital content as needed;
  • Working with the Marketing Department to develop digital content for the Company’s marketing efforts;
  • Various other tasks as required.

 

Requirements

  • This job is made possible through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs Program. Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age AND be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • Experience in video editing and technology a must;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office a must;
  • Comfort taking direction from multiple people and prioritizing needs a must;
  • WordPress experience an asset;
  • Knowledge of/background in dance/performing arts an asset.

Professional Accompanist

Professional accompanists are welcome to apply to Canada’s Ballet Jörgen & George Brown Dance!

Pianists are needed for ballet classes, and George Brown Dance also schedules:

  • Percussionists for modern dance classes
  • Pianists for Vocal and Chorus Repertoire classes

Accompanists will potentially be called upon to play for a ballet class for the company, and/or as a substitute for George Brown Dance classes. This may lead to contracts for regular classes during school terms.

Dance Education Assistant: George Brown Dance and Canada's Ballet Jörgen

George Brown Dance & Canada’s Ballet Jörgen are seeking a dynamic individual to fill a 3-4 month internship opportunity.  The ideal candidate is motivated and interested in learning about arts administration in the vibrant world of dance and dance training.  The Dance Education intern will work closely with the Program Coordinator in the administration of Ballet Jörgen’s Education programs, with a focus on George Brown Dance.

This position will also give the candidate an opportunity to participate in preparing for productions of shows, as well as events such as auditions, and studio showings. The intern will gain an overview of how a prominent dance company and its programs function, gain valuable work experience, and make connections within the company.
