VDA Pre-Professional Program

The VDA Pre-Professional Program offers dancers the opportunity to train virtually with Canada’s Ballet Jörgen year-round. Dancers will take class with CBJ faculty to develop strong technique and artistry through a variety of dance styles which is supported by stretch, conditioning, and yoga classes to build strength and prevent injury.  All classes will take place via Zoom through which dancers will participate from their own locations.

Fall Session 2021

Session Dates: September 27-December 13, 2021

Trial Weeks: September 27-October 8 

This is a registered program (no drop-in classes). Students will be able to attend unlimited classes during the trial weeks (September 27-October 8, 2021) before registering for the remaining 9 weeks of the Fall Session.

This schedule is subject to change. Please note that classes will require four students to run.

All classes are taught by our diverse faculty of CBJ dancers and George Brown Dance faculty.

All classes will be chaperoned by CBJ staff who are there for administrative support.

Dancers will be taken through a ballet barre and some center work which will focus on developing strong ballet technique.

Ballet, Ages 13+ – 4:30-5:45pm EDT

Tuesdays
Ballet, Ages 9-11 – 5:00-6:15pm EDT
Ballet, Ages 12-14 – 6:00-7:15pm EDT

Thursdays
Ballet, Ages 14+ – 4:45-6:00pm EDT

Fridays
Ballet, Ages 13+ – 4:45-6:00pm EDT

Sundays
Ballet, Ages 11-13 – 11:20-12:35pm EDT
Ballet, Ages 14+ – 11:20-12:35pm EDT

Dancers will focus on pointe work at the barre to build and maintain the strength and technique required for pointe work. Students who have not started on pointe are welcome to register and take class in their flat shoes in order to prepare for starting on pointe. Students will be split into Pointe level 1 or Pointe level 2 at the discretion of the Education Manager.

Pointe, All Ages (lvl 1 and 2) – 5:50-6:20pm EDT

Tuesdays
Pointe, All Ages (lvl 1 and 2) – 7:20-7:50pm EDT

Sundays
Pointe, All Ages (lvl 1 and 2) – 12:45-1:15pm EDT

 

Modern classes will engage a variety of contemporary and modern dance techniques while going through exercises and combos.

Wednesdays
Modern, Ages 9-13 – 6:15-7:30pm EDT

Thursdays
Modern, Ages 14+ – 6:15-7:30pm EDT

These classes will focus on solidifying jazz technique through warmups and progressions to advance alignment, flexibility and strength to improve turns, jumps, and transitions.

Fridays
Jazz Technique, All Ages – 6:15-7:30pm EDT

Students will learn ballet repertoire with a focus on taking the technical steps and building a character around that to tell a story.

Tuesdays
Ballet Repertoire, Ages 9-12 – 6:20-7:20pm EDT

Sundays
Ballet Repertoire, Ages 9-12 – 1:30-2:30pm EDT
Ballet Repertoire, Ages 13+ – 1:30-2:30pm EDT

Classes will explore styles such as broadway/theatre jazz, latin, contemporary. Classes will all have an improvisational component that will allow students to delve into movement dynamics, and develop personal artistry.

Thursdays
Jazz/Contemporary Repertoire, All Ages – 7:45-8:45pm EDT

Cross-training is a fundamental part of building strong technique. This class will focus on building and maintaining the strength necessary for injury prevention and success in dance.

Wednesdays
Conditioning – 5:00-6:00pm EDT

This class is designed for people of all ages who are looking to add a little more movement into their lives. Participants will be lead through a gentle class to create mobility in your muscles and joints, offering various adaptations for those at different stages in their practice. Participants are welcome to keep their cameras on or off during class.

Sundays
Yoga – 10:00-11:00am EDT

Private Lessons are available to all VDA pre-professional students who are currently registered for at least one class per week. These lessons are scheduled on a first come first serve basis. Tuition Fees

Fall Session Deposit: $60.00 (+HST) – the session deposit covers unlimited class attendance during the trial weeks (September 27-October 8, 2021) 

Remaining tuition fees are based on the total registered class hours per week over the 9-week session (October 12-December 13, 2021). Please add up your total class hours per week and calculate your remaining fees owing based on the chart below.

20 minutes = $30.00 +HSt
30 minutes = $40.00 +HST
45 minutes = $60.00 +HST

Registration

All new students to the VDA Pre-Professional Program must complete an application form. Please click the New Students – Apply Here button below. Once completed and if accepted to the program, you will receive an email with details on how to register and pay for classes.

We are offering a trial week for our Fall Session. Pay a $60.00 (+HST) deposit fee and get unlimited access to classes to find the ones that work for you!
