From Mentorship Student to Apprentice: Adam Davidson

November 8, 2019

“Now that I’m an apprentice, there is room for new growth and improvement, which I look forward to achieving.”

Adam Davidson has joined CBJ as a company apprentice for the 2019-2020 season. Last season, Adam earned a spot in CBJ’s Mentorship Program, reserved for graduates of the George Brown Dance diploma program in Dance Performance. Now, he is thrilled to be taking this next step in his professional performance career. “Becoming an apprentice for Canada’s Ballet Jörgen validates the hard work I’ve done to get to this point,” he reflects. “Now that I’m an apprentice, there is room for new growth and improvement, which I look forward to achieving.”

CBJ’s Apprenticeship Program is designed for emerging professional ballet dancers at the beginning of their careers. Apprentice dancers are immersed in CBJ’s professional company environment and are treated as full company members as they tour in productions and deliver education programs across the country.

“I know that every time I go out and perform with the company, I am representing them along with the other dancers. That was a new experience for me as a mentorship student.”

Adam’s experience as a mentorship student has prepared him well for the invigorating challenges of his apprenticeship. “Professionalism inside and outside of the studio is something I learned during my time as a mentorship student,” Adam remarks. “I know that every time I go out and perform with the company, I am representing them along with the other dancers. That was a new experience for me as a mentorship student.”

This season, Adam is enjoying the challenges that come with the increased responsibility of being an apprentice dancer. “There is more responsibility on you to know your parts and rehearse yourself,” he explains. Out of all the opportunities that come with the Apprenticeship Program, Adam most enjoys delivering CBJ’s Ballet 101 educational program to young audiences across the country. “I love to teach children, and I feel like this is a great way to reach out and share my love of dance with others.”
