FOR IMMEDIATE USE
Canada’s Ballet Jörgen presents its popular Ballet in the Studio (BITS) program in Halifax at the Lilian Piercey Hall of the Maritime Conservatory of the Performing Arts. This is a great opportunity to see the dancers up close and personal in an always-eclectic program of new works on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the Dalhousie Arts Centre Box Office, ranging in price from $16-$22, with a special group rate for dance schools. BITS is an intimate studio show, which includes informal introductions from the company to each piece plus the chance to meet the dancers at a reception. BITS is a perfect opportunity for dance students and all ballet lovers to get up close and personal with professional ballet dancers!
The repertoire includes: Malgorzata Nowacka’s new work, Séance, excerpts from Robert Desrosiers’ Bouffonia, the pas de deux balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet (touring this spring to Halifax, choreographed by Bengt Jörgen), Christopher Stalzer’s pas de deux from this year’s Toronto Solos, and other works.
Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will also present master classes in ballet, pointe, repertoire, jazz, and partnering on Sunday, October 20 at Halifax Dance (1505 Barrington Street, Halifax). Advance registration is required. Please register at www.balletjorgen.ca/education or call (416) 415-5000, ext. 4928. Students interested in auditioning for George Brown Dance or Ballet Jörgen’s Summer Programs are also welcome to attend.
Last spring in Halifax the company worked through the Halifax Regional Library system and presented six events, reaching out to many who could otherwise not see what live ballet is all about. Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will do that again this season. Check the library schedule (www.halifaxpubliclibraries.ca) for details about our free library visits throughout HRM.
Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is recognized for the innovation, warmth, humour, and beauty in its works. For over 25 years, the organization has sought to advance the art and appreciation of ballet and Canadian choreography through performance, educational experiences, and community engagement. Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is proud to be one of the country’s pre-eminent builders of new ballets. Presenting here for over 17 years, the company connects with a broad age range through its school programs, work with local dance schools and choreographers as well as their large-stage performances. The company is supported by an Atlantic Advisory Board, and has co-presented full productions with Symphony Nova Scotia.
Halifax programming is made possible by RBC Wealth Management, Margaret and David Fountain, the Westin Hotel and the Atlantic Advisory Board.
