Staff Spotlight: Andrea Page

“Every day I am inspired by the sheer amount of dedication that each and every person in the company and administration brings to the craft, to the artform, and to the industry.”

Our Staff Spotlight Series continues with CBJ Program Manager, Andrea Page. Andrea has quickly become a key member of the CBJ team since joining the company in October 2018. Get to know Andrea in this interview about her work with CBJ, professional background, and the highlights of her role.

What is your role with Canada’s Ballet Jörgen?
I am the Program Manager for our amazing educational outreach program called Ballet 101. These are free 1-hour interactive performances for kids that we do in schools and in libraries all across Canada. I am also doing program management for our newest creation, Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet™. As a Program Manager, I basically help to ‘herd the cats.’ I create timelines for all of the various projects under each program and make sure that tasks get done on time and with the appropriate level of quality required. My job really boils down to communication: asking a lot of questions, clarifying issues, communicating next steps, and providing everyone with a snapshot of where we are at on any give day.

What is inspiring about the work you do with CBJ?
I worked for almost 20 years in digital advertising agencies, working on several different clients’ programs simultaneously in an ever-changing environment; marketing + technology = constant change! I love working with CBJ because I can really dig in and focus on just one entity: our amazing company. And I don’t use the word ‘amazing’ lightly! Every day I am inspired by the sheer amount of dedication that each and every person in the company and administration brings to the craft, to the artform, and to the industry.

It may be just me, but I feel that we are one of the hardest-working dance companies around. When the dancers aren’t practicing for the current ballet on tour, they are teaching master classes or providing educational outreach programming. These dancers are really dedicated to the vision of CBJ: inspiring….enriching…connecting with…communities through dance. On a personal note, I wanted to work in the non-profit sector, and I have a deep love of dance (my youngest daughter aspires to become a ballerina). I have landed in the perfect place for me, and every day I feel such gratitude to come to work and be surrounded by people who are all driving towards a worthwhile mission together.

What is something about yourself that your co-workers may not know?
I used to own a gym and have instructor certifications in Spin, Yoga, Personal Training, and GravityGroup training. I even have certifications in CIZE! and Country Heat, which are dance-based workouts. And now I know that I am lousy at leading and following choreography! Hats off to all of the dancers everywhere!
