Kiah Brubacher-Cressman

As someone passionate about dancer health and performance, Kiah is thrilled to be able to offer her time and skills as a part of the Wellness Team for Ballet Jörgen.

Kiah completed her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto and her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Western University. Kiah has been a dancer since the age of 5, dancing competitively in Ballet as well as a wide range of other styles until the age of 18. Not being able to walk away from her passion, she stayed involved in the dance world throughout her university studies where she joined dance clubs and continued to perform. This love of dance led her to guide her physiotherapy career into the world of dance medicine. For her final placement of the physiotherapy program Kiah had the incredible opportunity to work with company dancers of the National Ballet of Canada. From there, she got involved with Healthy Dancer Canada, working on the Dancer Screening Committee to develop screening tools to help dance teachers identify injury risk factors in their students and empower them to adjust their training practices to minimize injuries.

Kiah is currently the in-house physiotherapist for Canada’s National Ballet School. Being a part of the Wellness Team for Ballet Jörgen is particularly special for Kiah as she has fond memories of her time as a local participant in the Kitchener performances of Ballet Jörgen’s Nutcracker when she was a young dancer. She feels grateful to be able to a part of this dance community again in her role as a physiotherapist!
