Svea Eklof

Svea Eklof is the Principal Coach of Canada’s Ballet Jörgen for all Classical and Neo-classical works. She teaches at the George Brown School of Dance in Toronto with a focus on the Mentorship Program.

Miss Eklof retired as the Principal Dancer of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet where she won critical acclaim for her stunning performance as Odette-Odile in the RWB production of Swan Lake. In 1982, the renowned Dance Magazine named Miss Eklof as “one of the leading ballerinas of our time.”

Born in Los Angeles, Miss Eklof’s formative dance training was at the North Carolina School of the Arts. During her career, she studied with Laura Alonzo, Galina Yardanova, Madame Alexandra Danilova, Pauline Koner and the late George Balanchine, who personally coached her Tchaikovsky Pas De Deux, Allegro Brillante And Tarantella Pas De Deux.

During her prestigious international ballet career, Miss Eklof has been a member of several prominent dance companies throughout Europe and North America. Miss Eklof has been an evaluator for the Canada Council for the Arts and served as a judge for the Dora Mavor Moore awards and the Manitoba Dance Festival in Winnipeg.

Miss Eklof has been a guest teacher at the National Ballet School of Canada, the North Carolina School of the Arts, West Virginia Dance Festival, Furman University Summer Dance Program in South Carolina, the George Randolph School of Dance, and Northwest Ballet Florida.
